Mental Wellness

Everybody needs exercise, including those with special needs. As the only approved fitness company contracted with Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN), TWD is pleased to offer daily fitness & wellness programs uniquely designed for individuals diagnosed with a mental illnesses and/or developmental disability. Free to anyone that’s pat of DWIHN with Medicaid, these program are designed to improve mental health through physical fitness and coaching on healthy living and are offered in adult foster care homes, mental health club houses and mental health facilities.

It is our hope that, as a community, we will see both an emphasis and improvement in fitness among the millions of individuals and families impacted as most get very little physical activity and carry high amounts of body fat. These traits do not develop from their condition, but rather from their lifestyle. Exercise is a key factor in maintaining and improving overall health, and there are significant health benefits that can be obtained with a moderate amount of daily physical activity. These benefits are even more important if you have a disability, since people with disabilities have a tendency to live less active lifestyles.

Our Special Needs Fitness & Wellness programs provide low to medium impact sessions to help support improved health, increased confidence, and better mental health. Program participants can expect to see improvements in a number of health areas, including hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, blood clots, heart risks and more.

Youth Strength & Conditioning

The Wise Decision is particularly pleased to offer customized youth programs including strength & conditioning and youth fitness programs.

TWD offers customize strength and conditioning training programs to meet the unique needs of every student in any sport. Whether on the court, ice or field, our strength and conditioning programs are for all sports to help youth athletes succeed at the highest levels of their sport. These programs include the right mix of intensity fitness, sport-specific training protocols and skill-specific instruction to not only make you a better athlete, but a better player as well.

TWD’s strength and conditioning programs are developed based on sport, age group and time of season. All programs have a large focus on injury prevention, and can be done in a team or individual training session. For the inner champion in all of us, we offer appropriate training protocols for all ages. Mindful not everybody should be lifting weights, as an example, training for college, high school or even middle school youth is structured differently for each age group, but the core principles remain:

Youth Fitness

Our youth fitness programs aim to not only encourage an active healthy lifestyle, but also enhance each young person’s physical development and self-confidence. TWD youth fitness programs combine nutrition education and exercise in a fun interactive way that keeps the students excited, while both learning and maintaining a balanced focus on proper nutrition and fitness.

Students engage in team and individual games that educate them on how to make the wise decision on the foods they choose to eat. They also get active with traditional calisthenics and body weight exercises that involve fitness games, relay races and obstacle courses.

Corporate Wellness

TWD’s Corporate Wellness services provides both on-site and off-site fitness and nutritional programs to employees. For both flexibility and convenience, fitness classes are offered before, during and after work hours. All classes and programs are geared towards improving the overall health and condition of the employees. The program further combines nutritional support and exercise in a collaborative, fun and interactive way. Each wellness program is uniquely designed to meet the needs of the employer.

Program offerings can include: After Work or Lunch Break Fitness Sessions, Health Risk Assessments, Biometric Screenings — including Blood Pressure, Blood Lipid, Blood Glucose, Body Mass Index and more, Wellness Coaching, and Education and Awareness Programs including Nutrition Seminars and Health Fairs.

Senior Fitness

Our Senior Fitness program is a fun and unique offering designed to promote fitness and well-being among seniors, increase their longevity and boost their quality of life. Participants truly have fun and move through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and routine activities for better quality of life and daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and palates balls are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.

As part of the natural aging process, for seniors, decreases in physical activity as we age can be the primary culprit for increased risk of adverse health conditions such as arthritis or neuromuscular conditions. It can also result in a diagnosis of other chronic health conditions and low energy levels.

The key for not only seniors, but for all of us, is not to stop exercising when chronic health conditions arise but to use exercise to help manage the symptoms of such conditions. When exercise is added it can have a major impact on both the quality and life of a senior.
